The musical series “Les Jeudis du Jazz” in Chêne-Bougeries offers an exceptional evening on Thursday, November 20, 2025, with a very special guest: David Linx, an iconic figure in international vocal jazz.

A spectacular evening bringing together six renowned orchestras from the Franco-Swiss region, never before gathered in a single venue! This event was born from the idea of offering a diverse and original cultural experience outside urban centers, in line with the cantonal authorities’ desire to provide the entire Geneva region with events usually reserved for the city.
These ensembles are made up of professional musicians and skilled amateurs, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy several top-quality jazz orchestras in a single evening! The concert will take place in western Geneva, in Champagne, in a hall perfectly suited for big bands. The evening features a succession of concerts of approximately one hour each, running from 5:30 PM to 1:30 AM, with on-site catering available.

The Geneva Chamber Orchestra and the Big Up Band join forces for an exceptional evening under the direction of Raphaël Merlin. On the program: a vibrant tribute to three giants of American popular music – Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, and Quincy Jones – whose inventiveness and groove continue to inspire generations.
Custom arrangements by Rémi Labbé and Jeff Baud provide a unique framework where the power of brass and the freedom of jazz meet the sonic richness and depth of the symphony orchestra. Between fiery rhythms, unforgettable melodies, and orchestral brilliance, this concert celebrates the meeting of two musical worlds and the timeless vitality of these icons of pop and soul. A festive, generous, and irresistibly engaging evening.

Fans of soul, funk, and swing are in for a treat! The Forum Meyrin Theatre will resonate for 1.5 hours with the hits of Al Jarreau, as well as some of his lesser-known tracks, all arranged for the Big Up’ Band. To help rediscover this legendary artist’s velvety voice, the orchestra will be joined by Grégoire Maret, a world-renowned harmonica player from Geneva who has performed with the likes of Steve Coleman, Herbie Hancock, Prince, and Sting.
This tribute will also feature the voices of Joanne Gaillard and Ernie Odoom, offering a true journey through the depths of groove.

Soul, funk, and other thrilling rhythms will delight the audience! From Boogie Down to Moonlighting, Agua de Beber, and many more, the Alhambra will resonate for 1.5 hours with Al Jarreau’s major hits, as well as lesser-known pieces, all arranged for the Big Up’ Band by Rémy Labbé (Berklee College of Music/Boston, Manhattan School of Music/NY), Jeff Baud (winner of the Brussels Jazz Orchestra International Composition Competition 2013), and Alexandre Maestrangelo (winner of the “Artistes en Herbe” Composition Competition, Luxembourg).
While some arrangements remain relatively faithful to the originals, most have been thoroughly reimagined, sometimes retaining only the original melody. This is precisely what makes the work of Jeff Baud, Rémy Labbé, and Alexandre Maestrangelo so interesting: they preserve the essential elements—rhythmic or melodic—of the original piece while taking liberties with harmony to fully exploit the sonic spectrum of a big band.
No fewer than eighteen musicians and a vocalist will help you (re)discover the fabulous repertoire of this great artist, Al Jarreau, not always widely known to the general public. Prepare your ears: the sound is powerful, just like the magnificent voice of Joanne Gaillard.
